About Pierre Tran
Pierre Tran, a pianist, and teacher for the past 40 years who comes from an industrial family of Chinese origin, located in Madagascar. After completion of his secondary education in Paris, his studies led him to obtain a university degree in architecture in 1981. It is from his paternal aunt, who deeply marked his childhood, that he owes his passion for music, and most importantly his desire to teach. His aunt being herself involved in this vocation through her role as a primary school teacher for a Chinese school, despite her previous professional endeavours as a businesswoman.
In 1979, he crossed path with his piano teacher: Thibaut Sanrame (1932-2001), who himself was a student of Vincenzo Scaramuzza. By studying with such an outstanding professor over the course of 10 years, enabled him to develop an artistic and scientific approach, which he puts to the service of music, so to unveil its secrets. Due to this encounter, he embraced in his early life, a desire to teach piano.
For several years, he founded his quest for musical beauty on the established School of Scaramuzza, following the genius of its founder.
His personal achievements led to a prolonged journey to India, lasting 10 years, where his conception of music gained a spiritual dimension.
Since his return to the West in 1998, first in France, then in England, he has been directing a piano teaching centre, dedicated to constructing a laboratory space for research. His students, who come from all around the world, benefit from his knowledge, which he loves to share without constraints.
His multidisciplinary knowledge is significantly founded in a synthesis vision. Notably, this includes one of his central interests: the construction of pianos since it connects the pianist with the piano technician; he himself being initiated to the art of tuning.
His latest work on the Goldberg Variations by J.S. Bach is a follow up to an essay on the piano which was published in 2009.
